TOUR GUIDE

The Barnacle Historic State Park

Located in Coconut Grove, this 5-acre park is home to Miami’s oldest house in its original spot, built in 1891 by yacht designer Ralph Munroe. Inspired by nautical design, the home features a unique octagonal layout and wide porches to suit the tropical climate.

Munroe raised his family here, later lifting the entire house to add a new first floor. The Barnacle survived major hurricanes and was preserved as a state park in 1973. Today, it offers guided tours, picnics, and a glimpse into early Miami life—surrounded by a rare coastal hardwood forest.
